An injury 2 weeks before the marathon!

12 Mile Run

As you can see from the photo on the left, the long run for this week was another 12 mile run. Not so bad in the big picture, I remember when I used to dread long runs of that length, and definitely a reprive from the 20 miles of the previous weekend. Anyways, I was lucky enough to get some company for the run - both Dave and Grant ran with me, or perhaps they'd say I ran with them. In either case, the weather was one of those perfect days for running (except for the wind) - cloudy and cool. I over dressed somewhat (wore my jacket and rad pants instead of a long sleeve shirt and shorts) but no so much that it really bothered me. I'm hoping for similar weather for race day.

Coasting to the starting line?

Well not quite, but I did take tonight off. I've been really tired this past week and since I didn't get enough sleep last night and was still tired when I got home from work, I decided to skip the four miler that I was supposed to do tonight. That should mean I'll be well rested for the long run on Saturday, which is a manageable 12 miles. Looks like it's only going to be Dave and I running together.

So we're down to 17 days (8 more training runs) left until the marathon...I'm getting excited. I feel I should publicly state, I'm not so sure I'm going to make my prediction of 3:45:00. At this point I'll be happy to come in under 4:00:00. Who knows though, I just may surprise myself come race day...

The Longest Week

20 Mile Run

Well the longest week of my training has come and gone...all 40 miles (64 kms) of it. I'm happy to report that I survived the week without too much trouble. My shins and my knees had been bothering me a bit earlier in the week but thankfully they were fine on Saturday for my 20 miler. As you can see from the photo on the right, the big run itself was a pretty boring course, and the fact that I was running alone didn't help.

First Ride of 2006

First Ride of 2006

I've been meaning to blog this for a while but am only now getting around to it. A couple of weekends ago, on a Sunday afternoon, I drove down to Brockville with my new road bike to go for a ride with Trev. The photo on the left shows our route - which was from Trev's place, along route 2 to Prescott and then across the 401 and back along some other road. It was a nice ride. As you can see from the photo, either the map is bad or the data from my GPS is bad. I didn't have 'lock to road' turned on so that probably didn't help.
